Counselling shaped around you
Everyone comes to counselling with different experiences, challenges and hopes for change. At Providence Counselling, we offer flexible ways of working with individuals and couples, depending on what you need and what you want to achieve.
You can choose individualised counselling, work through one of our structured programs, or combine both approaches.
Individualised counselling
This is the traditional approach to counselling. You bring whatever is happening in your life or relationships, and we work through it together.
You might have a particular issue you want to address, be experiencing ongoing difficulties, or simply feel that something needs to change.
We take time to understand your circumstances and develop a counselling approach around your needs. This may involve exploring experiences, understanding patterns, working through difficulties and developing practical ways forward.
There is no set course to follow. Your counselling can change direction as new concerns arise or your needs develop.
Structured programs
Sometimes a more focused approach can be particularly helpful.
Our structured programs are designed around specific areas such as relationship strengthening, communication, recovery and personal growth. They draw on established counselling approaches, including Gottman methods, alongside our professional experience.
These programs often place greater emphasis on understanding what's happening, learning practical skills and applying them in everyday life.
Sessions may involve psychoeducation, guided discussions and practical exercises, with resources and activities you can work through between appointments.
Because much of the learning and practice can happen outside the counselling room, structured programs can offer a more cost-effective way to make progress while developing skills you can continue using long after the program.
A flexible approach
You don't have to choose one approach over the other.
You might begin with a structured program and add individualised counselling when particular issues need more attention. You might start with counselling and discover that a focused program would help you develop specific skills. We can also combine both approaches throughout your work with us.
We continue developing new programs as we recognise common challenges and areas where people could benefit from more focused learning and practical support.
If you don't see a program that fits what you're looking for, ask us. We can discuss your needs and explore how to tailor an approach that works for you.

Relationship learning and structured programs
We offer educational group workshops in Canberra and more individualised structured learning for couples. These are distinct from Querencia retreats and from counselling appointments.
You can enquire about the next group start or ask which structured approach may suit your relationship.
The six-week singles and couples groups are offered in Canberra, independently of Querencia Retreat. They are educational workshops, with enquiries open for upcoming dates.

Choosing the right setting
A group workshop is for relationship learning. Counselling involves individual assessment and support for the circumstances you bring. Get in touch if you are unsure which may suit you.
