What we mean by confidentiality
Counselling gives people a place to discuss personal and relational concerns. What you share is treated confidentially, subject to legal requirements and circumstances involving serious risk to a person’s safety, child protection or other applicable obligations.
How notes are kept, how information may be shared, and any particular arrangements for couples counselling are explained through the counselling agreement.
Particular arrangements in couples counselling
In couples counselling, both partners are clients within the joint process. Information shared separately may become relevant to the work together. We cannot generally conduct effective couples counselling while keeping significant relationship information that one partner expects us to conceal from the other.
Please raise concerns about private disclosure arrangements before sharing information you expect to remain hidden from your partner.
Privacy and email enquiries
Please keep your initial email brief. Further information about confidentiality, records and the limits of privacy can be discussed before your first appointment.
