A shared life and a shared commitment
We bring different personalities and experiences to the counselling room. Working together gives couples the benefit of two attentive practitioners who can listen to both sides of a relationship and explore what is happening between them.
We have spent many years working with people in counselling, education, pastoral and community settings. Our work is grounded in careful listening, good questions and a belief that understanding opens up possibilities for change.
In couples counselling we work as a couple with a couple. For individual counselling, you meet with either Jefferson or Katie.

Our backgrounds are different and complementary. Our individual profiles set out the experience, qualifications and specialist learning each of us brings to Providence, including the approaches we use together in couples counselling.
Katie brings extensive experience in clinical supervision, counsellor education and group facilitation, and now focuses primarily on supervising other counsellors. Jefferson brings a practical, systems-oriented approach, with particular work in couples counselling, men's counselling and compulsive sexual behaviour.

We are Jefferson and Katie Godfrey, the counsellors behind Providence. Alongside individual and couples counselling, we create practical learning resources and run relationship retreats at Querencia.
Many of our resources began as a way to explain an idea more clearly, guide a difficult conversation or help someone keep practising after a session. We improve them as we see what is most helpful.
We bring different strengths to the process. Jefferson draws on his design background to make resources clear and consistent. Katie draws on her counselling, teaching and group facilitation experience to make sure the wording and exercises are genuinely useful. We develop and refine the materials together.
We share free conversation tools and selected resources through our websites. We also offer more extensive printable collections for independent learning and professional use through Resource by Providence on Etsy.
Faith and values
Christian faith, spirituality and questions of meaning can be included where these matter to you. We also work respectfully with people who do not share a Christian faith or do not wish faith to form part of counselling. We will not assume or impose your beliefs.
