How to get started
1. Send us a short email
Let us know whether you are seeking individual counselling, couples counselling, supervision or support in another area. You do not need to give a detailed personal history in your initial enquiry.
2. We offer appointment options
We generally respond with approximately three of the nearest available times. Once you choose an appointment, we issue an invoice. Prepayment secures the first booking and the intake form is sent before the session.
3. We begin the conversation
The first session is about your concerns, relevant background and what you hope may change. For couples, both people will have room to speak. We discuss possible next steps towards the end.
Session fees
Clear from the outset
Providence provides a private counselling service and is not currently eligible for Medicare rebates. Ask your private health insurer directly about any rebates that may apply.
Where and when we meet
Appointments are based in Central Canberra, ACT. Online sessions are generally available where needed after the first face-to-face appointment. Couples appointments are generally held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, depending on availability.
Cancellations and practical arrangements
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or change an appointment. Missed appointments and late cancellations may incur a fee equal to 50% of the session fee, except in exceptional circumstances.
Appointments finish at the scheduled time, even if you arrive late. The normal fee still applies.
You are not required to book a predetermined number of sessions unless a particular program has been agreed.
Confidentiality and suitability
We discuss confidentiality, records and any specific agreements for couples work. Counselling is not a crisis-response service. Please let us know before booking where there are important safety, legal or specialist clinical considerations that may affect whether our service is suitable.
