A place to speak honestly
People may be dealing with secrecy, shame, repeated attempts to stop, conflicts between actions and values, or the impact of behaviour on relationships. Counselling begins by understanding the person and the pattern, rather than assuming everyone has the same history or needs.
People use different terms for these concerns, including pornography addiction or compulsive sexual behaviour. Jefferson has additional training in this area and takes a non-shaming, values-informed approach. Counselling considers emotional, biological, relational and social influences on behaviour and explores changes that fit the person’s values and commitments.
Areas the work may address
- Understanding the cycle of triggers, urges and behaviour.
- Recognising emotional, relational and practical factors that maintain patterns.
- Developing workable responses and recovery supports.
- Examining secrecy, accountability and the impact on relationships.
- Planning for setbacks without giving up on change.
When a guided pathway could help
A structured pathway may combine counselling with learning, practical strategies and exercises between appointments. This can help people practise new responses in everyday life. We can discuss whether a suitable pathway is available or whether individual counselling would better meet your needs.
